The game is (beautiful)^19 and the sound effects are great. It is hard to gauge the difficult of point and click games at times, but I found the first few levels to be a good balance between obvious and confusing.

Very much looking forward to the full game!

The mac version doesn’t work(I’m on mac os 10.5)
I dragged the folder to my applications folder and booted it from there, but there’s nothing popping up, even though I can see it “running” in the dock.

9. rubbermuck
October 2, 2009

Also, very neat idea to have an unlock mini-game to get the answers that way if you really couldn’t get past it.
The problem is though, that the mini-game seems impossible to beat.

October 2, 2009

Absolutely brilliant!
Works great on my Mac (OS X 10.5.8)

@Rubbermuck,
Judging by your second comment, you did manage to get the game running on your Mac, right? As for the walkthrough minigame, have you tried using the arrow keys and the space bar to control the floating key? It makes it a lot easier.

Cheers!

October 2, 2009

Absolutely great demo! Pre-order is one click away! But i have an issue with the menu on my macbook air. It doesn’t show up when I am at 100% full screen, which is really annoying as I want to save there. It is a small thing, but I want to enjoy the beautiful screens to the fullest!

Anyone else has this problem?

14. Sachka
October 2, 2009

Pre-ordered too. Amazing beginning, great atmosphere, adorable character (I love tin robots so much ^^). Amanita rocks.

15. TRoss
October 2, 2009

P.S. (for Amanita’s Mac/Flash person)

I’ve noticed there is a slight annoyance in the Mac version of the game: the title bar is displayed in the fullscreen mode (at the top of the screen), showing full path to the game. If one escapes out of fullscreen and goes back to it, the bar dissapears.

I’m not a Flash programmer, but I read somewhere that this has something to do with the Mac Projector’s fscommand acting up strange in some cases, and that the simple way get rid of the title bar on a Mac is to set the fscommand to launch after 1 second. Then publish as Mac Projector.

October 2, 2009

I nearly screamed at my screen when the demo finished! I’ve been following this game for months, cannot wait for the release. It’s so impressive what can be achieved with Flash these days, truly exceptional work.

A quick question, will the game be available on Steam or is buying off the site my best bet if I want it on release day?

17. Murray groat
October 2, 2009

Please let me know when/how I can buy this. It looks amazing. I loved your earlier work.
Take care,

October 2, 2009

TRos: thanks for advice – I hope we will fixed it in the Full Version.

Blackthorn: it should be on Steam on Oct 16, but I can’t confirm that as the Steam is soo slow that we can’t be sure with them about anything. best bet is our site and also we will have more money if you buy it directly from us;)

19. Takeshi Vokuhila
October 2, 2009

I love it! I took a sneak preview into the demo and find it simply outstanding. Will play the demo through later tonight and definetly order the game – creating such fabulous games MUST be supported :)

20. Chris Lepine
October 2, 2009

Well done, Amanita team! The demo is slick, gorgeous (of course) and my wife who has very little experience with games quickly understood the play style. I won’t comment anymore until I play the full game. Pre-ordered.

Expect a review on ArtfulGamer.com whenever it’s released!

21. UltraNeko

Jakub: If you make more of a profit, I’ll definitely buy directly from you. Thanks for the heads up, I’ll be preordering as soon as I can.

24. Andre Reis
October 2, 2009

I’m guessing that the game won’t work with users who still haven’t upgraded to Flash version 10. You should probably include some sort of version check, so that you can direct the user to Adobe’s update website.
I enjoyed it very much. Fix that problem with the fullscreen on the Mac, and to me it seems ready to go!

25. Kevin
October 2, 2009

Adobe’s Flash Player 10 seems to get downloaded/be integrated with the demo, so I’m fairly certain that you don’t need to upgrade beforehand to that particular version. =o)
A tip for for the Mac version regarding the display of the title bar is to Turn Hiding On of the Dock prior to launching the game. (That worked for me anyway.)

26. chegr
October 2, 2009

I’ll certainly buy it!
Two things to mention:
1. I’ve noticed a bug with cap and lamp in the second screen. After some actions both lamp and cap were put on, and lamp dissappeared. So when i click something and robot shakes his hand, lamp appears for this animation and then vanishes again.
2. Have you ever played russian Full Pipe? :) It looks very similar to Machinarium and it’s great to me.

27. chegr
October 2, 2009

And yes, please — can you deisable right click in final release?

28. kojder
October 3, 2009

I’ve pre-ordered the game a long time ago, and haven’t played the demo, as I want to experience the whole game. I’ve just launched it and I have one comment. The Mac version doesn’t launch in fullscreen mode. The window titlebar is visible at the top of the screen, and I find it really distracting from the amazing graphics. Please, please, please make the game run in fullscreen, with no unnecessary UI elements!

29. TRoss
October 3, 2009

@Kevin,
Thanks for the Mac tip. Btw, another way to get rid of the fullscreen title bar on a Mac is to run the game from the dock (at least that worked for me).
As I said, it’s a minor annoyance… but I still hope Amanita’s programming wizard will do his magic and fix it with a couple of lines of code in the final version. ;)

30. Dan

October 4, 2009

Hi guys;

Really enjoyed the demo, amazing piece of work.

One suggestion though, when you’re hovering items the differentiation between things it can be used on and things it can’t is a little too subtle – making it a little more obvious wouldn’t hurt at all.

47. Andraika
October 4, 2009

I hated those adventure games. I really did. I saw no reason to pick up stupid 2D things just to attach something to something and after half an hour to open some stupid box with stupid letter :) And I tried this one just because of fun screen-shots. And it was… awesome! I ordered game directly after I was done with the demo also. So great. thanks again.

October 5, 2009

At first, the game ran incredibly slow and I tried to change display settings in vain. But now, it works fine for some reason.

Liked the demo, had to use a walk-trough to realise that I can lover my robot’s head so it can reach things underneath.

Heavily considering buying the game. In fact, it is definitely on my list, next to Operation Flashpoint 2.

52. TeaTime
October 5, 2009

I played the game a bit at PAX, and also downloaded the demo.
Absolutely amazing. Art design is unbelievable, music is moody and fitting, great ambiance and clever puzzles.
Already pre-oredered and have the HD pictures cycled as Wallpapers.

Keep it up, this game is amazing, can’t wait for it to come out.

54. Asger
October 5, 2009

I really like the artistic style of the game. In certain games I feel like I am playing a movie but in this game I feel like I am playing a painting. The music has been dead-on so far and it makes the game very relaxing to play (at least in the demo). I just preordered the game – I hope it will take a long time to complete because I expect that I will miss it when I am done with it.

55. Skeeter
October 5, 2009

After getting the demo(s) yesterday, my six year old son has been driving me crazy. He is nuts over the artwork and the little robots are his new best friends. We’ve played the demo enough we can breeze through the 3 levels in record time. I, myself, can’t wait to play beyond and he can’t wait to see what’s next.

Needless to say, our pre-order is in and we can’t wait :)

When I got an email saying that Amanita Design had a new game out I couldn’t download the demo fast enough. I found your site when I was looking up Flash examples for my Multimedia (Flash) class in college. I am a long-time gamer, turning 40 this year, and puzzle games have a soft spot in my heart. I have been a working illustrator, writer, and designer for 23 years now and am very picky about what I like. Everything that Amanita has touched though so far has had me completely enthralled, both sound and visual levels.

I just finished the demo and pre-order the game. I am thoroughly looking forward to playing it in its entirety and was thrilled to receive the soundtrack previews. I bought Samorost 2 and admittedly left the game up in the background as I worked on several writing projects. I love to write and the soundtracks are very soothing as well as inspiring.

I am looking forward to seeing more and will continue to steer people your way. Thank you for offering up all your incredible work!

Ria :)

Downloaded the demo last night: The graphics were amazing. The mini-game for hints was cute and not that difficult. The clues were extremely well thought-out. Overall, the demo whetted my appetite for the full game. Can’t wait until Oct. 16! The only thing was that I was hoping for story or some introduction to our fine robot protagonist. Still, I’m very pleased with the demo and very excited to play the full game.

“When I turn full screen off, I seem to lose the menu bar at the bottom (with the volume, save, quit, etc). I am on a Windows Vista computer. Love the game (even though I’m not very good at it!)”

I have the same issue. With fullscreen on and zoom 100%, after i turn fullscreen off, i lose the menu bar (and i see the inferior border of the window). I have to exit the program and re-run it, then the zoom appears on 80% and the inferior menu bar is ok again.

Mi screen is 1280×800, winXP.

The game is amazing, but please consider a version for linux too :p

66. Alex
October 6, 2009

Help guys, the demo on my pc works fine, but on another one it freezes at the main screen, I can sometimes move the cursor but keeps freezing then moving again, if I can manage to start a new game, it is really slow. I can’t see the lower bar, so I can’t try windowed mode.
I even updated flash to version 10, but nothing changed, and I updated the video drivers too.
The pc if powerful enough (it can run Sims 3 without any problem), so it isn’t an hardware problem I think.
Thanks for the help ;)

Pozdrawiam!

84. stickboybob

hey, i paid it. it’s totally worth it i agree. i’d pay as much as for this as a console game. i’m just curious what compelled them to do that.

October 8, 2009

I prepurchased the game on steam and am quite excited about it. However, I’m having trouble getting it to run in true fullscreen. It was perfect the first time I opened the demo. Then I stopped for a while, exiting fullscreen in the process. Now when I maximize the window I still see the program header on the top of the screen and the windows bar down on the bottom of the screen. What’s the trick to getting it back how it was? It was so much prettier I don’t want to play further until I can get it back.

October 10, 2009

I’m having the same problem as a lot of people, in that I can’t make the game return to fullscreen after exiting it or accidentally hitting the Escape key. If you guys could implement a button that would automatically return it to fullscreen, it would fix the only real bug that I’m seeing in this game so far.

Reaaaally considering the pre-order, I love the art style and the music in this game. I’m entering the game design business myself, and this is EXACTLY the kind of game I’d love to make. Let the 2D revival begin!

93. Blue Cloud
October 10, 2009

To everyone with the fullscreen slowdown problem just right click while in game to bring up flash control settings and deselect check box for hardware acceleration. Game window still doesn’t operate in 100% for me though just default 80%. I’m sure that will be fixed in full release.

Thanks Jakub, but the problem with the Screen Size still persists in the V2 Demo. Whats the native resolution of Machinarium? Is it possible to make it playable in Fullscreen on a 1680×1025 Resolution?

I have to admit that, while this one is no biggie, it still bugs me. I want to enjoy the beautiful art all over the screen, instead in a tiny window of course.

111. Eric
October 13, 2009

Sorry, 1680×1050 of course.

112. Jakub Dvorsky
October 13, 2009

Eric,
unfortunately it’s not possible to have the game bigger then 1250×790 which is it’s 100% size. it’s because it would be very slow and blurry if it was stretched to higher resolution. of course you can lower your screen resolution, however I understand it’s not very clean solution:)

Thanks for the tip from a commenter way up above that you can shoot in the minigame! I had no idea. I just figured there would be no walkthrough for me! Also, I’d like to reiterate my problem that on Windows it’s hard to see the main menu when you go from full screen to not full screen (as everyone has been saying).

After reading the review in the latest issue of Games TM, I decided to play the demo. I was very impressed by the look, feel and sounds of the game. So impressed, that I bought the game. Congratulations on a marvelous achievement! I hope that the support from all of us makes you want to make plenty more games!

Well,i found a problem when play Machinarium. When the hero has been trapped into the cage, there is a mouse staying in the hole of the room beside him, but i really don’t know why you set this mouse staying here since i don’t need it at all…! The mouse seems not prevent the clue going.

By the way,it is really a novel and fantastic game!

The game appears at first to a great game! However, the Tavern Puzzle is just to hard for a standard user! I feel as though I bought a very short game! I have heard a child has beat it in 10 minutes ( Maybe children of the blue corn ) , so they should have sold to just children or very very smart people only! I have never beat a computer at it’s own game! I feel like I have to apologize to game makers for being to stupid to live! There’s no help for this puzzle, yes there is video but is doesn’t work. Thanks for taking my money with the intentions of making people stubble at this point and closet the game! Save’s on tech support cost. They have your money and you will never see the end! Laugh all the way to the bank! Never again! Ike

Hi, I’m insterested in buying the game, it looks nice, but I have a question… does it work on a Linux 64bits S.O.? ’cause I don’t use 32 S.O.’s

144. Jakub Dvorsky
November 7, 2009

SGAN: please download and try Linux demo first (http://machinarium.net/download/Machinarium-Demo-EN7.tar.gz) if it works fine then you can buy the full version.

Anyone got issues with the full game for Windows running incredibly slowly? Any tips on how to get it running as per the demo speed?

147. Jakub Dvorsky
December 14, 2009

eco: Make sure your hardware acceleration in Flash Player is disabled.
1. Right click on the screen (or ctrl click on Mac).
2. Choose settings.
3. Click on the icon in bottom left corner.
4. Make sure the hardware acceleration box is unchecked.

also you can try to run the game in window mode (fullscreen off).

I’ve downloaded the Mac demo, and it come up, the menu at the bottom works, but nothing else.

Is there some sort of trick to get this to run?

OS X 10.5.8, 1.5Ghz, 1 GB Ram…

Again, I’d really like to play the demo, can anyone tell me how to get it to work?

It launches, does the logo, then says machinarium demo in the lower left corner.

The popup menu’s at the bottom work, and after that there are 2 pop-down icons in the upper right. These do nothing.

At this point, I have a black screen, except for the machinarium demo words.

OS X 10.5.8, PPC 1.5Ghz, 1GB Ram, Flash 10.0.32.18 (note: hardware acceleration won’t stay off)

When I attempt to play in Ubuntu 9.10 in fullscreen everything works until I need to manipulate inventory items. The mouse control becomes very sluggish and the item ends up flying all over the place. When I take it out of fullscreen it works fine. I am using Compiz Fusion but when I switch to Metacity it still happens, but not as bad. It’s still very difficult to point the item where it needs to go and click. Is this something you’ve come across before? If so any suggestions? I can play in not full screen with the window maxed out as a workaround but the fullscreen experience is much better.

Thanks, keep up the good work, this game is amazing by the way!
