Machinarium is finally ready  and released also for iPhone. It’s called Machinarium Pocket Edition and it’s currently on sale for $1.99 (normal price is $2.99). It’s well playable with pinch-to-zoom feature, improved graphics, achievements and other improvements.

If you already own Machinarium for iPad, you don’t need to buy it again for your iPhone because the game is now Universal App. The new version  includes:
+ Universal App (you can play it also on your iPhone)
+ Pinch-to-zoom
+ Supports iPad1
+ Retina Graphics
+ Achievements, Game Center, iCloud.
! Please note that your old saves from 1.X version will not work, but you can use the “Lost Save” functionality within the game to partially recover your position (there are 6 pre-saved positions from various parts of the game).

Is this version still Adobe AIR?

no, it’s a native version.

I just installed the update for Machinarium and it is horrible on the latest iPad. The collected items are no longer conveniently located at the bottom of the screen for easy access and dragging. They are now hidden at the top of the screen which forces me to have to constantly reach up, which blocks my view of the screen and makes it enormously cumbersome and unwieldy. Before the upgrade it was my favorite game, but now it is no longer streamlined and intuitive. Maybe the upgrade works for the iPhone, but it totally sucks on the iPad. Please tell me how I can recover the prior version of this game to my iPad, the way it was before I Installed this recent upgrade!

“Horrible”? What? I love the update…especially the Retina support. The game looks beautiful. :)
I especially like how the inventory items glow and hover a bit to indicate that they can be used.
Only a couple really minor graphical issues I saw were (a) with the little blueprint book in the drawer by the wrench guy, when open it looks slightly clipped, and the pages don’t look all that clear…and I miss the page turning animations, and (b) I didn’t see the gramophone on the shelf when looking into the gambling room from the bar.

While the game is “optimized for iPhone 5″, is it playable on ancient iPhone 4?

Forgot to mention that I also really like the achievements. :)

@darnel: I can tell you that my iPhone 4S runs it fine, so it’s not exclusive to the 5. But not sure about the 4, though.

Hi there, I also do not like the update on my iPad retina. I cannot use the items, they do not glow. Even though I know what to do as I am repeating some part after lost save. Please help. The robot just keeps turning his head as no, even though I am doing the correct thing with an item. regards

@darnel
> is it playable on ancient iPhone 4 ?
Yes! The new ‘Pocket’ game for iPhone and the iPad update works even on the ancient iPad 1st gen. and should work fine on the older iPhone 4 also.

@drdka
The items are highlighted if they are useful only as the other poster above confirmed. This might be a local problem in certain game situations when the game needs a bit different or combined item to trigger the highlight & action. Thanks for you opinion.

@gale franey
The inventory in this update should work similarly as on iPhone. The older build might still be available, however the new game should work better and faster on the old&new hardware, plus you have the offsetted drag&drop, magnetism, better item highlight, updated minigames, Game Center, Achievements.. Thanks for your post.

@redshroom:
Thanks a lot for your answer. Now I have started from another presaved load – with the musicians and it works great and it is cool. But when I start in another load – in the room with the plants where I have to grow the sunflower, it does not work. I am trying to put the plant into the bucket and it never glows. Maybe I could send you a video, if you are interested. kind regards

I just bought both the ipad version and the pocket version, and after installing it on the ipad i realized that the game loses the saved games. I player the first cap, saved the game and exited. After playing the game again I only have the posibility to play a new game, and the resume game option does not appear. When I go to load option my saved game has gone…. Is it a problem with the ipad or with this upgrade?

Hello, congrats on the release!

But why have you chosen to use native development instead of Adobe AIR?

I downloaded the universial app for my iphone 5 before I noticed that it was a pocket edition avilibale. Is that a problem? Would the pocket edition work better on my iphone?

@ israel
If you have the iPad/iPhone ‘Universal’ app (with the latest update) then you do not need the ‘Pocket Edition’. The ‘Pocket Edition’ is a bit different and doesn’t share saves with the iPad/iPhone universal app. Also please be sure you really saved the game. Hope this helps.

@andrius
We used native in this case as it also runs on platforms where Flash is not viable like on PS-Vita, PlayStation 3 etc.

@drdka
You need to grow the little plant using the plant-grow accelerator, that machine needs to be correctly activated as described in the in-game help drawings. It works fine in my build number 1250, just tested.. (you see the build number below in the About Box). You can contact Amanita support if you need further assistance. Thank you!

Thanks for the quick response!
But why not to keep using AIR for iOS and Android? Are there any advantages using native iOS in this case Objective-C when deploying to say game consoles?

What is the difference between the pocket edition and the universial app? Should I download the pocet edition(I have allready download the universial app on my iohone 5)?

@knut
The ‘Pocket Edition’ (iPhone only) is nearly the same as the new ‘Universal’ (iPhone/iPad), but it costs less. The P.E. version is ideal if you plan to play on iPhone only, it has certain features enhanced for the small screen. The new ‘Universal’ build can also be used on iPhone and the game then switches to the PE mode, so you have the same experience as in the PE version, the advantage of the universal build over the ‘Pocket Edition’ is that you buy both iPad and iPhone-PE versions in one package.

@andrius
It is not advantageous to use native code for development, it was also deployed to pass some strict requirements on the consoles. Objective-C is only used for the Game Center on iOS.

Thanks for the response.
I realized after buying both apps. Anyway, I tried the pocket edition in my iphone4 and i don’s have saving problems. I save a cap, and when I play again the savegame is there. But with the iPad version (playing it in the iPad, I have not tried it on the iPhone) I still have the savegame problem. Each time I save the game and exit, when I enter again the savegame has gone. I don’t have the savegame either Resume option….

@redshroom Thanks! I bought it and playing it in free time. I love this game. Controlling is little harder because of little display (I know about zooming). Maybe I should install Mac version again… Ať žije Amanita design :)

The auto upgrade to 2.0 on iPad2 wiped out all saved states. It is mentioned that these may be available in 2.0, but I do not see them when the game is started. There is no resume game, and the Load at the bottom shows 6 empty save states. How do I get back to where I was in prior version?

23. redshroom
October 22, 2013

@mikeg
Please use the ‘Lost Save’ functionality in the Load Dialog (Universal version only) to recover your save position. But you might prefer to play again for fun and earn the new ‘Achievements’ and better your Game Center stats in the process.

@israel
Sorry to hear about that, not sure what might be wrong at your end. Please drop a note to our “support@amanita-design.net” email and please provide the following description [ ] iOS version, [ ] iOS device, [ ] jail-break of your system. We might address this in an upcoming version update if there are more people with this particular problem. Thank you!

Thanks!

One teensy sound glitch I noticed is that there is no sound for pedaling the bicycle in the arcade.

But hey, I did see that the gramophone is now back where it should be on the shelf in the room next to the bar. Ahhh. =D

I have the same problem with loosing saved games.
I am playing on Ipad 3 and every time I turn off the Ipad all my saves are gone.
I do not like the “Lost Save” function,since it is not exactly like my own saves.
Please,fix the problem

My kids (and I) loved Machinarium on iPad. Outstanding graphics, music, story, and puzzles. Biggest complaint is that we want more! Hard to match this quality, but we’d buy a sequel in a heartbeat.

Samrost was fun too, but so short.

First of all, I LOVE this game! I typically do not like video games but this one is awesome. The puzzles are fun, varied, and just hard enough to be challenging but not frustrating. I am currently at level 13 (with the brain) and the sound stopped working! I am playing on an iPad 3, iOS 7.1.2. Is there anything I can do to restore this?
